In the center of Hong Kong, near the harbor, the HSBC headquarters building is located on the former site of the City Hall. Originally designed by Norman Foster between 1979 and 1986 and reimagined by Foster + Partners, it is considered one of the city's most innovative architectural feats, encompassing three adjacent towers — scaling twenty-nine, thirty-six, and forty-four stories, respectively. In the tallest central tower, the fifteenth floor is home to the HSBC private client center, also known as the QRC Suites. Designed by Hassell, the floor is defined by rooms and small suites, a terrarium, and an apartment partitioned by UniFor.
Creating a space that can communicate openly with a central waiting room or be cordoned off for private meetings, the small suites area features retractable vertical slats in walnut veneer and extra clear pivot door partitions operated using a Thormax system installed beneath the flooring.
An innovative natural essence is brought to the design with a life-sized terrarium that serves as a space for quiet reflection. The floor-to-ceiling terrarium is crafted from curved and straight extra clear glass partition and sliding doors with magnetic gasket, complete with a wooden roof and round LED light system.
The apartment — a VIP meeting area — combines transparency and exclusivity in equal measure through curved and straight clear double-paned glass partition, American walnut profiles and doors, and a curved, motorized curtain mechanism.
