Last September the historic Cartier Boutique on Fifth Avenue in New York reopened its doors after two years of renovation. Cartier Mansion is an “icon” according to Thierry Despont, the architect who oversaw the building’s refurbishment. Despont is a classicist with a deep sense of history, passion for artisanal craftsmanship and an ability to perfectly combine age-old techniques with contemporary technology. “I wanted to give the public the sensation of being in the grand home that it once was and to revive its original splendour,” he explains. “I don’t think there is another store like it in the world.”
For years, Molteni&C Contract Division has been an integral part of the creation of Cartier Boutiques worldwide. For the four floors of Cartier Mansion Molteni&C Contract Division created loose furniture (chairs and tables) and the bronzed brass display cases equipped with sophisticated systems of opening, security and lighting.
A new collection of chairs with a classic design by Thierry Despont decorate the shopping and reception areas, providing each space with a unique sensorial experience.
