A Film by Francesca Molteni, curated by Fulvio Irace with the Fondazione Renzo Piano and the Renzo Piano Building Workshop produced by Muse. UniFor, a Molteni Group company that designs and produces solutions for contemporary office spaces, in partnership with the Molteni Museum, renews its support for projects that foster debate about contemporary architecture, and promotes the film “The Power of the Archive. Renzo Piano Building Workshop”.
A preview is scheduled for 22 September 2018 at the Royal Academy of Arts in London – which is hosting the “Renzo Piano. The Art of Making Buildings” exhibition as from 15 September – as part of the Open House architecture Festival, on 5 October at the Museo MAXXI in Rome and at the Milano Design Film Festival (25-28 October 2018).
The film stems from the idea of the Archive as a physical, but also a virtual place. In particular, archives linked to a professional practice like an architect’s studio, a deposit of mixed materials (drawings, models, correspondence, photographs, but also audio video materials, sound documents, etc.), which reflect the identity of the Architect and his/her way of thinking and working. Apart from the rationale of keeping things in order, however, this kind of archive is also something that can trigger new research, create pathways, arouse curiosity, cast doubts and uncertainties, generate interpretations and bring the content of history to the attention of future generations.
UniFor has worked with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop since 2007. The projects completed with RPBW, along with the Parete RP partition wall system, include The New York Times (New York, 2007), New Parliament in La Valletta (Malta, 2015), Centro Direzionale Intesa SanPaolo (Turin, 2015), Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (Athens, 2016), Jerome L. Greene Science Center Columbia University (New York 2017).
