The collaboration between Assemble and UniFor was born in 2024, when Maria Lisogorskaya, as curator of the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, met Carlo Molteni, CEO of UniFor and juror for the Architecture Award. Their encounter revealed a shared vision and a desire to collaborate, which has now taken shape in Fibredog.
“Part of our work involves finding technical solutions for architecture and design. I immediately liked Assemble’s attitude and spirit: when we find a good connection and potential for working together, we are willing to embark on new paths and new projects.”
– Carlo Molteni, CEO of UniFor
The structure of sculpture was constructed in Italy at UniFor’s manufacturing plant, where the company’s deep expertise in engineering and craftsmanship enabled Assemble’s imaginative concept to be realized on a monumental scale.
The sculpture incorporates the traditional thatching techniques of master thatcher Mark Harrington and master weaver Mollie McMillen using rush, hazel, sedge and willow to shape its tail, ears and coat. Through this collaboration, UniFor highlights its unique capabilities for translating avant-garde artistic visions into technically complex, intricately crafted structures, thereby bringing its know-how, once again, to an international cultural stage.
With a longstanding mono-brand store in London, UniFor has been part of the city’s design landscape for many years. As a brand of the Molteni Group, its participation in Frieze Sculpture during the London Design Festival highlights the company’s enduring commitment to the city’s cultural scene.
