CUORE - RESEARCH, STUDY AND ARCHIVES CENTER TRIENNALE MILANO, ITALY

Within Triennale Milano, UniFor renews its long-standing collaboration with the institution through the creation of Cuore – Research, Study and Archives Center. Conceived as an “archive of archives”, the project establishes a permanent environment dedicated to preservation, research, and public engagement, translating an extensive cultural heritage into a flexible and accessible spatial system.

Located on the ground floor and extending over approximately 300 square meters, the space is designed as an open and evolving platform. Intended to welcome visitors, researchers, and institutions, it operates as both a physical archive and a shared environment for study, dialogue, and collaboration, supporting a dynamic relationship between content and users.

Within the library area, the system takes the form of a continuous shelving configuration, accommodating both freely accessible materials and protected archival content. Glass enclosures and raised supports define areas for more delicate items, balancing visibility with conservation requirements.

A series of custom-designed elements articulate the different archives: vertical glazed drawers allow direct access to graphic materials, while tall display cases protect collections of objects and documents. Tailored solutions, including controlled environments and sliding mechanisms, respond to the specific needs of individual fonds, ensuring precision in both display and preservation.

The modular structures are primarily defined by metal and glass, with selected components clad in eco-friendly wood panels. Fully recyclable, the system can be entirely disassembled, reflecting the project’s broader commitment to sustainability, combining technical performance with a responsible approach to materials and lifecycle.

At the center of the space, LessLess tables support temporary exhibitions and research activities, creating areas for consultation and exchange. Adjacent zones are dedicated to study and collaboration, reinforcing the role of the center as an active and shared environment rather than a static archive.

UniFor's intervention establishes a coherent spatial identity, where research, exhibition, and everyday use can coexist and inform one another within a unified architectural frame.
